Tom arranged a surprise trip to the volcano Cayambe for my 28th birthday. We went along with Sadie and Leo. We drove for a good 3 hours outside of Quito and stayed in a lovely hacienda. We got up early the next day and started driving up the volcano. We had to stop when we were almost at the refuge because our Vitara Jeep couldn't cope with the boulders in the road.... we walked the rest of the way and hiked down to the glacier from the refuge. Leo introduced us to a local delicacy of intestine soup and dried blood - yummy!
We are living in Sevenoaks in Kent, where we work at The New Beacon School. Prior to this teaching position we were working in Quito in Ecuador on a two year contract at the British School Quito. We managed to see lots of South America during our holidays. You will see lots of photographs of Ecuador and the countries we have visited. We hope you like it!

School inset day - Papallacta
All the staff at the British School Quito were taken to Papallacta for two days. Papallacta is in the mountains about an hour and a half south of Quito. It is where the affluent people from Quito go for a dip in the thermal baths and natural hotsprings. It is really cold as is higher than Quito but the pools are lovely and hot. We all stayed in little cabanas with mini hot pools outside. It was lovely and a great way to meet everyone (shame we had to do a bit of work!)
