New Charity Project

We had to pull out of a previous project we were hoping to undertake as there was no help from the local community. It is so important that these projects come from the community or they are not sustainable. As a result, we had to abandon the idea of helping the Luis Enrique school in Quito and we have been looking for a similar project ever since.

A friend of ours, Orlando came across a local village, only 5 mins from the BSQ and we have since created a link between our school and a local community. An old colleague of mine Yvette and I did some fundraising last year and are helping to fund the nursery school teacher's wages each month. We are currently running a programme to help the school. Secondary children have attended the school on the weekend and have so far rubbed down and repainted one classes desks

Mindo - October bank holiday

We visited a small cloud forest town called Mindo, two hours from Quito, for a long weekend in October. We stayed in a hostel in the town with great hammocks. We visited some waterfalls and travelled across the forest on a very scary clapped out, old, mini cable car! We visited a butterfly centre, which was amazing. The butterflies would come and land on you and some had a wing span of more than 10cms. We met up with some colleagues from BSQ in the evening and wondered around the pretty town. We're definitely planning on going again soon.

Ecuadorian ballet

We went to the Ecadorian ballet at La Casa Del Cultura up in Quito to watch sleeping beauty. We took Lauralee our friend from school with us. She is the amazing chef at school (Tom;s favourite person). She cooked a lovely meal for us for our two year anniversary so we wanted to say thanks. We also took Tori and met Rosie and Juan-Pablo. The ballet was beautiful but it went on a bit!
